Is that Ben Johnson the Canadian sprinter or Michael Johnson 400/200 metres?

Is that the one where Johnson admitted he took steroids, but the steroids he got caught taking, he'd never took... so knew it was a set up.

Think it's The Dirtiest Race On Earth or something, I read the book a good few years ago. Thought it was Da Silva who was thought to be the only clean athlete in that 88 final but it's all a bit murky now.

The Tyler Hamilton book that documents the Lance Armstrong era of doping is a proper eye opener, recommend it thoroughly. Think it's called The Secret Race or something similar. Very good.

There is a good documentary (Dirtiest race on the planet or something similar) that went into all of this in great detail. The braces, the convered up positive tests, backstabbing etc.
I felt sorry for Calvin Smith - he reckoned he was only clean top level sprinter at the time but refused to go down the drugs route..

Cholo

Nothing about Kelly's rise from nothing to champion rang true at all.

I called this out on here back in 2004. I stated she was on drugs (everyone on here said no way) and that after the Olympics she'd do an event or two and then retire so as not to get caught, that is exactly what happened.

You could be right, they could be bitter, but I don't think so and there is enough stuff on the internet about her and how she came to win so know enough people were aware.

This is what you've been told right? How do you know this is all true rather than the people telling you are repeating rumours they've heard themselves or are just s bit bitter they weren't as successful? I'm not saying all rumours are bollocks, some probably have substance (pun intended), but how do you tell the difference?

Re: Kelly Holmes
Carl Lewis. As a young lad he was one of my favourite athletes. As I got older it soon became apparent what an entirely unlikeable cunt he was. Part of that rash of (mainly american) athletes that suddenly needed to wear a dental brace due to changes in their jaw from abusing HGH. So obvious now but back then didn't think much of it.

Re: Kelly Holmes
I think they should make the Olympics drug free but the World Championships free to drug enhance (but the same enhancement drug is used by all).....this is because I am interested on what more humans can achieve when they are obviously already built for it.

I know sounds nuts but I am curious of the difference and it needs to be recorded. The only thing I wouldn't encourage is if it damaged athletes health.

Re: Kelly Holmes
Lewis (in no position to talk) was questioning Jamaica back in 2008, but it went on before then.

Re: Kelly Holmes
I was a big Coe fan (athletics wise!) and remember reading a rumour about blood doping, but no proof of course. His training was very different at the time with his father as coach who was an engineer so took training to a different angle. He was a very good youngster mid 70's so was always a good athlete. It's the ones that were crap for a few years who suddenly became top class that I have my doubts about. Ben Johnson of course was average wasn't he? Must be honest and say Mo Farah wasn't ripping up any trees for a few years!

I'm not saying all, I'm saying of ones I know.

Ennis, Gunnell, Sanderson, Coe, Ovett, etc. I've never heard anything. But who knows.

Look at Jamaica, never a hotbed of sprinting, does away with random testing and has a testing procedure in place that has been blasted time and again for being not fit for purpose, and it has the best sprinters in the world.... yet no one questions Bolt.

Yup might as well chuck Coe and Ovett on the drug cheat pile as well…. I mean they was smashing their own records week in week out … I mean just look at Steve Ovett… looked one of the biggest crack heads ever…

What I've learnt from this thread is, basically, anyone who ever wins at athletics is on drugs.

You'd have thought more people get caught though? It can't be that easy to get away with?

Re: Kelly Holmes
You don’t come back from all those injuries at that age and start getting PBs.

Farah is the funniest of the lot. Was bang average before he joined Salazar. Very nearly got caught as well, but he still got his Knighthood.

Ok fair enough. I'd like to believe that for so many years she was so injury prone that she never hit the heights that she could, and those last couple of years she got an injury free run which helped her train properly and do it drug free! That's what I would like to believe anyway.

Re: Kelly Holmes
Vexed, why do you overlook the fact that winning is un English?

Win more than once and that individual goes from hero to hugely flawed.

Win three times and that same person is beyond the pale, not really of full English blood, don’t love his Mum etc.

When of course that same winning individual has the temerity to speak out about poverty, discrimination etc. Places such as this Board go into a mild form of right wing meltdown.

We seem to appreciate more a winner who does it just the once ( better still if they fall at the final hurdle ).

Vexed 6:28 Tue Jun 21

So lets get this straight - anyone that wins = on the gear

Valiant losers/the untalented = robbed

How British of us.
